Our "tourist" days are over and we are ready for the next phase of services and seminars this week. We had an enjoyable day in Valle de Angeles yesterday, and we shopped until Bro. Finnicum dropped! We went back into the city where we ate dinner and restocked our drinks for the next week. It was another good day with a lot of fun and fellowship in the van. Bro. Geinrre's entire family was with us, as well as Nancy, Bro. Misael's daughter. She is learning English, so it was a very good opportunity for both her and Savana to practice their language skills. The area we are working in, Talanga, is so very different from the city of Tegucigalpa. Here the traffic jams are not cars, but cows or burros! The people in the city are very pressured with time and money, while those here in the country live a more relaxed life, and seem to be less stressed. Certainly, we hope that the Lord allows us to take this gospel to the cities and other parts of the country, but for now, it seems that this is where the Lord is working, and we want to reach out to any who hunger for the truth. Today we will have an afternoon service with Bro. Misael. We planned it earlier in the day so that Bro. Cristian could bring his family. We are hoping that some of the other pastors will bring some of their people and meet with us there. It seems that bringing them together would be a great way to reach the most people at one time. Today we should have the opprtunity to share more songs. Please continue to pray for the Lord's will to be done this week. Tomorrow starts a 3 day marriage seminar, and we want to help these pastors with their own families, so they they might help the families in thier own churches
Yesterday was a fun day for the girls. We left early to go to the city to the American Embassy to change Eunice's Visa. What we found is that "Red Tape" is the same in every language. It seems that we will have to pursue it when we get to the United States. We had lunch at McDonalds, then decided to take a trip to Ojojona. Those of you who came with the younth group before will remember that this is the area that makes and sells the pottery. The girls were able to buy some souvenirs. The exciting part there for us is that we believe we found the shop and the little girl who is our "Cup of Love" picture. We took more photos of her, and gave her some lempiras. When we got back to Tegucigalpa, we went to Bro. Omar's new home, and spent some time visiting with Bro. Cristian and Moises, Bro. Omar and Sis. Mirna, and Sis. Heydi. The others were not able to be there, but we hope that they all can join us tomorrow afternoon in service in Talanga. It was a good day, and the girls enjoyed getting out to see a bit of the country, as well as the experience of Tegucigalpa traffic jams. We love and miss you all!
It has been such a wonderful week here. The three days of pastors' Bible studies are complete, and we feel that it was successful. Bro. Finnicum taught for two of the days on the 3 phases of salvation. Today he began to teach on Resurrections. He barely had time to get started, but he gave them many scriptures to read and consider over the next few months before we return again. We had another service tonight in a little church with about 40 people. We had visited this church once before on our last trip. The girls are getting to experience such a variety of things. Tomorrow we are going into Tegucigalpa to the American Emabssy. Eunice is returning to Roanoke with us, and we are going to try to get her Visa changed from a tourist Visa to a student Visa so that she might be able to stay with us longer. We hope to be able to spend some time with Bro. Cristian and the family later in the day. Saturday will be the "tourist day" for the girls, and they will be able to mingle with the local people at Valle de Angeles and shop for some souvenirs to help them remember this trip. Our schedule has been very tiring, so I think they will enjoy these next 2 days. We have Eunice with us, and also Nancy, Bro. Misael's 16 year old daughter. They will both be with us through the weekend. We are confident that God is working on the hearts of the people here, and we anticipate what the next week will bring.
Wednesday was such an encouraging day here. There were even more men at the Bible study- which lasted from 10 AM to 2:30, with a 20 minute lunch break. Many of the men are really starting to listen. Their questions are very sincere, they just want to hear what the Word of God says. Although it is a long day, it is very rewarding. During the break, the young men go to the keyboard and practice our songs. They are not perfect, but it is so exciting to see them try to sing them. These 3 young men really want to go this way. Please pray for them: Rigo, Luis, and Gustavo. Some of them are skipping school to hear the Word of God. Last night's service was the best so far. Bro. Betanco has a very small group of people, in fact, they meet in someone's living room. But they have such a sweet spirit. Their music is very sweet and worshipful. At the end of the service, we prayed with all of them, and the power of God fell in a mighty way. They were really pressing in. It was an exciting night for the girls, and they all once again testified. Our bodies are beginning to weary, but there is much work to do for God here. Please continue to pray for strength for all of us. Bro. Geinrre has very long days, and he works very hard. He works so well with Bro. Finnicum as he translates both the words and the
Yesterday was another great day to serve the Lord here in Honduras! We had a wonderful Bible study meeting with the pastors. There were about 12 there, most we had seen there before. Several of them are really beginning to hear this message, and while some things give them great cause to search the Scripture, that is exactly what we hope for. They can see that Bro. Finnicum is teaching only with the Word of God, and not his own opinions, so they slowly are beginning to question some of the things they have always believed. The wives are much more open to us this trip. We attribute that to the time we took with them in the marriage seminar earlier this year. They can see that we care for them and their families. Last night's service had to be cancelled due to a heavy rain in Talanga. When it rains like that, the streets become flooded, and they can not get to church. Bro. Geinrre quickly made some phone calls, and we switched churches and were still able to go to a service. We were at Bro. Alexander's church in Los Charcos, where Bro. Geinrre lives. We have been there several times, and each time the people are much more receptive. The girls are doing such a wonderful job with their testimonies, and you can tell that the people are surprised that young people have so much love for God in their life. Today is the same schedule for us, and we expect other pastors to be there today as well. Truly God wants to build His church here in Honduras, and we are privileged to be a part of it. Please continue to pray!
Yesterday was a wonderful start to our time here. We organized all the clothes that we brought to give away, and took an inventory of what we had. After Bro. Geinrre arrived, we all had a prayer meeting together to seek God's help for the week. Last night's service was at Bro. Misael's church. There we have freedom to do the music and instruct in the ways of worship. They are slowly beginning to open up a bit. All the girls were able to testify, and Bro. Misael later commented that he hoped one day his young people would show that kind of love for the Lord. After a 2 hour service, he said that was the longest service they had ever had! We were just getting started! Today we begin the meetings for the pastors. We look forward to seeing many of those we have worked with here the past few years. Please pray for these men. God must open their eyes if they are to recieve this message, and they must be willing to hear. Thank you all for your support in every way.
Good morning from Honduras! We all arrived safely Sunday afternoon. We were very thankful for 2 uneventful flights, and arrived at the Tegucigalpa airport with all our luggage. The girls enjoyed their first airplane experiences, and they are already falling in love with the nation and people of Honduras. We were met by our dear Bro. Gienrre, and joined by Sis. Karla while we were having dinner. We arrived at the hotel around 5:30 and it didn't take us long to unpack and be ready for a good night's rest after such a long day. We awoke this morning feeling rested, and after breakfast, the girls are already out with Bro. Finnicum exploring the grounds of the hotel. It is unusual for us to have a morning off, but Bro. Finnicum likes to have the first morning to get acclimated and prepare his mind for the week as he seeks direction from the Lord. Bro. Geinrre will meet us here later today and work on our schedule for these next 2 weeks. Tonight will be our first service here, and we will be with Bro. Misael, at the church where we are helping to build a new roof. We anticipate great things happening during this trip, and we ask for your prayers as we bring this message to the people of Honduras.
We are busy preparing for our upcoming trip to Honduras! This will be our 9th trip to the country, and we have great anticipation to see what the Lord will do. We are excited to be taking 3 of our young people on this trip; Sarah and Abigail Hummel, and Savana Hale. We leave on Sunday, July 10th, and will be in Honduras for almost 2 weeks. Our interpreter and friend, Bro. Geinrre Valladares, has been working hard to set up a schedule for us. We will be in services most every night. During the days, we are scheduled to have several days of ministers' training classes, as well as a 3 day marriage seminar for some of the pastors and their wives. We will be blogging as often as possible. If you would like to donate money to help with the costs of the trip, or help with our project of a roof for one of our churches, you may go to http://www.causes.com/causes/538649-fathers-for-the-fatherless. Any offerings would be a great blessing, and are tax deductible from Fathers for the Fatherless, which is our 501C3 non-profit ministry. Please pray for us!Bro. and Sis. Finnicum
